I’ve got some pretty talented friends. My high school bible study mentor is on a national news show, my brother is a huge lawyer in Florida that gets recognized at every turn, people I finished college with have done everything from play professional sports to work for NASA to start cancer research for the Mayo Clinic. Some of you may be surprised by this, but one of my Senior Superlatives was “Most Likely to be Famous- Class of 2002.” So sometimes I wonder what those fellow classmates would think of my life now? Compared to a lot of my contemporaries, my own world can seem small. It occurred to me that at 18, my dreams were large but in my 30’s, the opportunities around me seemed limited. I wondered how the hearts I was caring for now and the daily routines we had were impacting the world, were moving mountains for the Kingdom. And then I read somewhere about how God counts. I was reminded of the scripture on the sheep- how He would rejoice over the ONE who strayed more than the 99 who stayed. You see- Jesus counts by ones. He may have been in the throws of thousands but he took the time to minister to individuals- the woman at the well, the leper, the disciples. So much of our lives can be broken into tiny moments- tending to booboos and bad dreams, taking a meal to a friend, saying a prayer for a neighbor- but in these simple acts of love, we make the stepping stones that change hearts and lives for Christ. It’s easy to get discouraged about paths not taken, dreams that didn’t turn out as planned, or daily ruts that seem to define us, but just because your life may seem unnoticed- never means it’s unimportant. Stardom is not the same as significance; Fame is not the same as fulfillment. So take heart and be grateful for a life that may not be remembered by thousands- for some of us: that’s not our story- BUT hold tight to the path the Lord has you on- there is so much beauty in the lives you touch and the hearts you tender. You should be proud of who you are and the life you have, and know that God sees it, and is so very proud, too. Amen 🙏
