I wanted to go to Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. In fact, at 18- I was either going to be the next Entertainment Tonight host, or a Christian publicist who spent nights as a back up singer for Brittany or Jessica. Real life. After a few years in the industry, I’d meet a man, who would fall madly in love with me and we would move to Nashville to raise our kids next to Tim and Faith. They seemed like the most natural neighbors and I assumed I would miss fried chicken and sweet tea too much to stay in LA that long. It took one envelope to change it all. Waitlisted. Heartbroken. I remember going to God AFTER this devastating blow and beg of him WHY? It’s funny. I credit that big NO from Jesus as the time when I finally saw my decision making process change. I read once about an old Southern deacon who whenever he was asked about God’s will was-would hold up his hand as if to give a high five and say “look at these five fingers- I think there are a number of different ways you can go to get somewhere and regardless of which of these avenues you choose- you’re still going to end up in the palm of the Lord’s hand.” #micdrop🎤 I was always so caught up in going ONE way, positive of ONE right answer, the comfort in you go this way OR you go that way- But as I’ve grown, I’ve seen the way that places God in a box, it puts Him in boundaries He couldn’t stay in anyway. In reality, there isn’t much benefit in stressing over which direction we come from or which direction we go. We get on our knees- ask for God’s will and then trust His plans- that whichever path we choose- He will bring us hope, and the promise of a future. He desires for us to prosper and He longs for our closeness. The how we get there is so much less important than the fact that we simply show up. Trust HIM. Know that His love for you is greater. And rest soundly in the truth that any way you go, if you are seeking Him first- you’ll always end up in the palm of His hand. And that’s a future that is so much better than a house next to Tim and Faith. I can personally promise you that.
